Segno Gebeya Health Post

The brand new Segno Gebeya Health Post opened in August 2023, providing access to primary health care to the local community.

Around 50% of 1 to 2-year-old children in Ethiopia are not fully vaccinated, with rural communities having the lowest immunity coverage. This is why we build our projects in hard-to-reach places.

One of the vaccinations babies receive at the Segno Gebeya Health Post is the oral rotavirus vaccine. Rotavirus can cause diarrheal disease, which is the leading cause of death in under 5-year-olds in Ethiopia. The female Health Extension Workers not only provide the vaccinations but also educate parents on ways to reduce the risk of diarrheal disease, including improved sanitation, hand washing with soap and safe drinking water.

As a result of our holistic model implementing interventions in education, water and health, the Segno Gebeya community now has a large primary school, two safe water sources and a busy Health Post.
