Eshet Amba Secondary School

Until this project, there have been are no secondary schools in this area, so each year only 5% of children have been able to move away from their families in order to access secondary school. Very rarely are girls given this opportunity due to households being dependent on their domestic contributions and also concerns around their safety living away from home.

In partnership with the government, we constructed a new secondary school consisting of eight classrooms, a library, laboratories and toilets. This school can accommodate up to 700 students in grades 9 and 10, servicing 10 nearby primary schools.

Since the school officially opened in 2015, there have been around 500 children enrolled in Grades 9 and 10 each year, of which around 45% are females!

This project has already created a significant impact on the education level of the children in Eshet Amba and their future opportunities.
